Joint Security officers assigned at the Toe Town main border, say bad road coupled with lack of logistics for joint security is hampering the smooth running of the border.
Speaking at the border in Toe Town, LIS – border patrol officer further disclosed that bad road from Liberia (Toe Town) to the Ivory Coast border is creating hardship between the two countries for the smooth running of businesses the two countries.
According to members of the joint security, the border has been deserted by the business communities due to the deplorable road from Toe Town to the main border.
“Toe Town main border is among leading land borders in the southeastern region, the border turns ghost town due to alleged failure of government to even clear the road side or pave the road,” LIS border patrol officer lamented.
“The main border road going to Toe Town is deplorable, no vehicles coming with goods and the government is playing deaf ear to recondition the road. Motorbikes are what business people are using to transport whatsoever commodity they have from Ivory Coast, ” LDEA officer revealed.
When contacted, the joint security chairman, Austin Teah, confirmed that bad road is hampering cross border trade between the countries.
“Working relationship between the two countries joint security is very cordial but the only serious problem here is the bad 8.5-kilometer road from the border to Toe Town,” LIS commander Austin Teah stated.
When contacted, LRA’s Senior Collector Richard Gondah, says bad road is creating serious hardship among the business communities in transporting goods through the border in Toe Town, Grand Gedeh County.
“Revenue collection has dropped due to the bad road. We are appealing to the government to recondition the 8.5 kilometer of road to once again boost the economic sector,” LRA senior collector Gondah pointed out.
