At High-Level Meetings In Sierra Leone: Koung Rallies Support Against Malnutrition

Vice President Jeremiah Koung is currently in Freetown, Sierra Leone participating in series of high-level meetings aimed at galvanizing support to fight malnutrition.
On Monday, May 27, 2024, VP Koung left Liberia for a three-day official working visit to the Mano River Union (MRU) country.
Vice President Koung on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, held discussions with his Sierra Leonean counterpart, Vice President Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh on possible collaborations to rally support for the fight against malnutrition.
The two leaders are heads of their respective countries’ National Scaling-UP Nutrition ( SUN) Secretariat, as Koung intimated that his visit is intended to enhance understanding, share knowledge, and identify actionable solutions to address malnutrition challenges in Liberia.
He further disclosed that his presence in Freetown affirms the political will to mobilize resources and facilitate cross-sectoral coordination toward achieving malnutrition goals in Liberia.
VP Koung highlighted the need to exchange ideas on how both Vice Presidents can collectively tackle malnutrition in Liberia and Sierra Leone, and thereby paid a courtesy call to Sierra Leone President, Julius Maada Bio.
The discussion centered on strengthening the bilateral relationship between both nations and peoples. President Bio recounted the historical and cultural ties between both nations and emphasized the need for more collaborations in economic cooperation, trade, and development.
VP Koung concluded his meetings with the Minister of Health of Sierra Leone. At the heart of the discussion was to proffer strategies for reducing infant mortality by 30 percent especially among teenage mothers.
The Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone plays a major role in coordinating activities to address the issues of malnutrition.
