Ahead of 16 months to the heralded 2023 Presidential and Legislative Elections, Chiefs and elders of Nimba County have given President George Weah hope for his re-election.
Chiefs and elders made the commitment to the President during a brief meeting held with him before the official closure of the Cabinet Retreat yesterday in Gompa City.
The meeting which was attended by Senators Prince Johnson and Jeremiah Koung, among other things, was intended to appreciate the President for having trust in the people of the county, and most vitally, for the distribution of motorbikes and vehicles for the first time since the founding of Liberia.
In the meeting, the Chiefs stressed that the developments undertaken by the former football icon has placed him tall amongst his colleagues vying to be President.
As part of the meeting, the chiefs and elders presented gowns to the President and in addition to that, also presented two cows, sheep and goats as appreciations, with a vow to overwhelmingly support his second bid without a modicum of doubt.
The Superintendent of the County, Nilson Korquou expressed excitement on behalf of the county and said, “The 782 Towns in Nimba are happy with you Mr. President, particularly because of the trust you have reposed in the people of Nimba.”
In official remarks after extending their gifts to the President, Senator Prince Johnson thanked the President for not failing on his promises made to them.
He said that indeed by his word and for the first time in Liberian history, his elders have vowed to keep their share of promise to re-elect him and that he backs them as well.
Senator Johnson recalled that during the 2017 election, he presented the President to the people of the county to vote him among the rest of presidential candidates because he knew him to be a good person and has proved that to the people of Liberia at large.
“At that time, I told you that I was not leading to alligators that would have eaten you up but rather, I was leading you to the rightful leader who will do you better and he has done you exceptionally well,” PYJ said.
“Mr. President, We are with you and no turning back for your 2023 re-election bid,” he noted.
In a brief response, President Weah reciprocated the citizen’s appreciation, stating that they Nimbaians should be the ones to be thanked because they were the ones who listened to their leaders and made him their President.
“So, you need to be thanked because when people said I couldn’t do this job, I said make me your President so that I can connect your counties to others, and you did. I still stand by my words,” Weah reassured adding that he depends on them to continue with the developments in Liberia.
In closing, Weah re-emphasized the need to preserve the peace in the country and extended special thanks and appreciations to Nimbaians for keeping the peace thus far.
