The Director General of the Bureau of State Enterprises, Arthur Massaquoi, has assured of a reformed State Enterprises that will contribute to the national envelope of Liberia.
Director Massaquoi was recently appointed by President Joseph N. Boakai as Head of the Bureau of State Enterprises, an institution that has been dormant over the years due to lack of political will.
The Bureau is charged with the mandate of providing oversight over state-owned enterprises that contain several public corporations, in an ardent hope to ensure improved performance, as well as provide and formulate policy options for the Government of Liberia.
Speaking Tuesday at the handover ceremony, DG Massaquoi commended and extended profound gratitude to President Boakai for the confidence reposed in him, while at the same time assuring the President of accountability and transparency while transforming the sector.
Director Massaquoi promised to curb the lapses that have undermined the productivity of the Bureau of State Enterprises, by ensuring that all state-owned enterprises are in full compliance with the law.
According to Director Massaquoi, his appointment as Head of the BSE has stimulated several calls from international partners who have pledged to work closely with the Bureau of State Enterprises to ensure the vibrance of the sector.
Director Massaquoi expressed his hope for a new and dynamic era of collaboration and cooperation with state-owned enterprises; “I anticipate a harmonious working relationship with all heads of state-owned enterprises for the betterment of the ARREST Agenda,” he noted.
“As part of our statutory obligations, the Bureau will consult and work closely with all state-owned enterprises to ensure improvement in performance, design criteria, and performance,” he stressed.
DG Massaquoi expressed vivid interest in deepening ties with SOEs in identifying problems relative to production and distribution of goods and services.
The Bureau of State Enterprises, under the leadership of Director General Arthur Massaquoi, will further suggest sources for technical guidance, develop options for the Government of Liberia on policy affecting state-owned enterprises, and provide strategic leadership.
The ascendency of the DG has marked the beginning of a promising future for the robust transportation of the State Enterprises.
While commenting on the smooth operations of the BSE, the Director General assured the staff that his administration will be participatory where the views of every staff will be solicited.
The DG used the occasion to note that his administration will be keen on identifying and addressing issues affecting the employees’ welfare, and will give cogent attention to staff’s capacity building, through training.
Meanwhile, DG Massaquoi has promised to unconditionally provide the necessary and desired equipment and tools needed to facilitate the effectiveness of the employees.
Also speaking at the handover ceremony were some top officials of the government. The Legal Advisor to President Joseph N Boakai, Bushben Keita, together with LTA Commissioner General-designate, Patrick Honnah, and an array of other government officials, graced the turning over ceremony with their presence.
In brief remarks, both Keita and Honnah congratulated Director Massaquoi and expressed confidence in his ability to transform the BSE.
They recognized the pivotal role of the BSE in shaping the development drive of Liberia, something they noted that Director Massaquoi is well suited to achieve.
