Authority of the Liberia Armed Forces Liberia (AFL) has announced activities leading to the commemoration of this year’s Armed Forces Day.
In a press statement issued, signed by Sam Kingsford Collins Assistant Minister for Public Affairs, this year’s celebration begins with the Armed Forces Day’s (AFD) Symposium.
This AFD’s Symposium will be held tomorrow on Thursday, February 3, 2021, at the Ministerial Complex, under the topic: “Enhancing the Security of Liberia through a Comprehensive Approach”.
The statement announced that Mr. Cecil B. Griffitts, President, and Liberia National Law Enforcement Association (LINLEA) will be the Keynote’s Speaker for the symposium.
The discussants for this year’s symposium include, Colonel Owoicho N. Ejiga, Mr. Eddie D. Jarwolo, Honorable Frank Musa Dean, Honorable Jefferson Karmo, Liuetenant Colonel Michael Clark, Honorable Samuel D. Tweh, Jr., Mr. Sorbor George, Honorable Steve J.H. Zargo and Honorable Varney Ali Sirleaf.
Professor T. Debey Sayndee, Director, Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation, University of Liberia will serve as the Moderator for this year’s Armed Forces Day Symposium.
The Armed Forces Day’s Symposium will be followed by a Jummat Service at the Cladwell Mosque located in Caldwell, Monrovia, Montserrado County, on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 12:40 P.M.
The Armed Forces Day Celebration has always been used as an opportunity for the public, foreign guests and dignitaries to be acquainted with the activities regarding development and progress within the Armed Forces of Liberia.
This year’s Armed Forces Day will be celebrated under the theme: “Inter-Agency Cooperation as a Panacea for Contemporary Security Challenges.
His Excellency Ambassador Tunde Ajisomo, Former ECOWAS Ambassador to Liberia, will serve as the Guest Speaker of this auspicious event.
On Saturday, February 5, 2022, the Clean-up Campaign will take place in New Kru Town, beginning at 6:40 A.M. Personnel of the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Liberia, Lonestar Cell MTN and inhabitants will be heavily involved with the clean-up campaign.
Besides, on Saturday, February 5, 2022, beginning at 7:30 A.M., the Medical Outreach will take place at WalaKou Community in Mount Barclay. Personnel of the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces of Liberia and Lonestar Cell MTN will be heavily involved with this exercise, ensuring that inhabitants are medically catered to.
Climaxing the Cleanup Campaign and Medical Outreach, a sport day will be held at the Barclay Training Center beginning at 10:00 A.M. The Sport Day will bring together teams from MOD/ AFL, UBA, LPRC, NPA, Beer Factory and Lonestar Cell MTN.
On Sunday, February 6, 2022, there will be a Thanksgiving Service at the Winner Chapel Church, Congo Town, Monrovia, at 10:00 a.m.
On Thursday, February 11, 2021, the official Armed Forces Day’s Celebration will kick off at 6:00 a.m. at the Barclay Training Center on the United Nations Drive.
Historically, this year, Distinguished Service Order (DSO) will be given to Brigadier General Kwedu Hagan and Lieutenant Colonel George Nuetey- Ablade Dottey from the Republic of Ghana; Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abubakar Swaray (S1890-RSLAF) from Sierra Leone; Colonel Chris Wyatt (Rtd.), Lieutenant Colonel Andrew Moulton, and Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Alden from the United States of America; Captain Dorothy Gray (Rtd.), Armed Forces of Liberia, and Mrs. Finda F. Nyumah, Eminent Citizen, Republic of Liberia.
Lieutenant General Leonids Kalnins, Chief of Defense Staff, Latvia Armed Forces , Major General Paul Roger, Michigan National Guard and LtCol Rob Browne, Defense Attaché, UK Military, will serve as special guests for the this year’s Armed Forces Day celebrations.
