Area B Kicks Off Barnesville Estate Area League With Victory

Barnesville Estate Area B began the 2023 edition of the Estate and its environs’ annual area league with a 2-0 win against area S, at the Barnesville Estate Soccer Pitch, on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

Striker Daniel Moah, who scored both goals, got the match’s curtain raiser in the 45th minute through a forceful header from a cross, received from teammate and captain, Kamara, and he hit the second goal in the 55th minute with a powerful shot from inside the 18-yard box, and he could have made things worse for the losing side in the 75th minute, but his shot hit the cross-bar before the ball was hacked clear from the area.

However, in the kickball category, Area B suffered a 4 innings to nothing defeat at the hands of Area S, in the opening game.

In Sunday September 10’s kickball encounter, Area Z beat Area E 14 to 2 innings, but both teams drew 1-1 in the football battle. Area F overpowered Area Y 7 innings to 2 in kickball, but Area Y defeated Area F 2-0 in football.

Area Y’s two goals were scored by striker Henry Dias, in the 60thand 77th minutes.   

Augustine S. Tamba, Sr. is the Organizing Chairman of the 2023 edition of the area league and described the turnout of spectators in the league’s first game as charming and hopes that it will continue until the final day of the league.

Tamba said, “This league is an annual league and is meant to actually bring harmony to members of the Barnesville Estate Community and its environs, and for the community to see their own children participating in the sporting arena, and we are sure that the momentum of our league is going to surely increase and things are going to get better, even though we are faced with a lot of challenges, but we hope our aim and objective will be accomplished.”

He narrated that this year’s estate league is organized in creation of the awareness for a peaceful elections, and that the winner from the football category of the league will walk away with 100,000 LD and a trophy, while the runner up will receive 50,000 and a trophy; the winner of the kickball category will receive 70,000 and a trophy, while the runner up will walk away with 35,000 plus a trophy.

Tamba paid homage to District 11 Representative, Richard Koon, who is the sponsor of the 2023 edition of the league, for the many contributions he has continued to carry on for the common growth of the estate and its environs, but called on officials of the participating teams to continue to follow the rules of the game.
