Another Drug Trafficker Arrested In Bong

The detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) in Bong County has arrested, charged, and sent to court suspect Nelson K. Stewart for illegally possessing a huge quantity of Kush.
Suspect Stewart, 32, was arrested at the Sanoyea Checkpoint with a huge quantity of drugs while enroute to the gold mining camp in Gbarpolu County.
Briefing the media on Monday, September 16, 2024, Bong County LDEA Chief of Operations, Hassan Dorley, said Stewart is one of the few suspects who have been arrested since the current leadership of the LDEA took over in the county.
The Chief of Operations placed the street value of the drug at US$ 2,840 which is equivalent to L$ 530,600.
He further revealed that since they took over in May of this year, they have sent to court over 10 drug traffickers with huge quantities of drugs in the county.
He said these suspects were charged and sent to the 9th Judicial Circuit Court, where they are pending court trial in the County.
Dorley, highlighted the detrimental impacts of drug trafficking on the younger generation, expressing determination to eliminate the influx of illegal substances in Bong County.
Hassan Dorley further said the LDEA Bong County Detachment will fight to make sure that the county is freed from drug traffickers.
He called upon the citizens to collaborate with the LDEA in combating illicit drug merchants by providing crucial information to support their enforcement’s efforts.
Dorley said the current leadership of the LDEA aim is to enhance the agency’s operations by addressing drug-related threats in Bong County and Liberia as a whole.
Meanwhile suspect Stewart is currently in the custody of the LDEA and will be charged and sent to court shortly according to Dorley.
Suspect Stewart told journalists that the illegal drugs were given to him by one of his friends, whom he refused to disclose his name.
The alleged drug trafficker is appealing to the Liberian Government to pardon him on grounds that he didn’t know that what was contained in bag given to him by his unidentified friend was a drug.
