Bong County District1 Representative, Albert Hills, has praised the management of ArcelorMittal Liberia for the construction of a recreational center, describing it as a great relief to children who; many times had to travel and see these things in other communities and felt bad, thinking that the society doesn’t have time for them and that they have been abandoned.
“I want to extend my thanks and appreciation to the ArcelorMittal-Liberia family for this recreational center project that will put smiles on the faces of our children,” Rep. Hills noted.
The Bong District 1 representative further urged the residents of his constituents to be a part of the process because the recreational center will encourage kids, especially those who are not going to school to now begin going to school with their friends while the school and the facility will now be more attractive for them in the district.
The recreational park is being constructed in Zoweinta Town on the campus of the Nyofarkollie Elementary and Junior High School at the outskirts of the town.
Rep. Hills however appealed to ArcelorMittal to see if the project can go across all districts in Bong County in order to put smiles on the faces of kids as future leaders.
Also speaking, ArcelorMittal Liberia Community Relations Officer for Nimba County, Hilton Gontor, said he is of the strongest conviction that the playground will inspire joy and unity among children.
“We strongly believe that this recreational center will bring happiness to our children and the people of this community because ArcelorMittal is an institution that is committed to transforming tomorrow’s people,” Mr. Gontor said assured.
He continued, “Without much I do; we just want to leave a word with the people of District1 and Zoweinta Town that no development is a development when it is not sustained. We are not putting this recreational center here because Zoweinta is beautiful. We are putting this recreational center here because it is an entitlement to the people of Zoweinta. After all, they are supporting our operations as a company.”
The ArcelorMittal community relations officer disclosed further that the playground will be fenced with solar lights installed to permit night-time recreation for dozens of children, and that similar recreational centers will be constructed in Frank Diggs Town in Grand Bassa and Yekepa Camp 4 in Nimba and will be hopefully dedicated at the end of April 2023.
The company’s community relations officer revealed further that ArcelorMittal is investing thousands of dollars to construct decent play parks in several host communities close to its mining and logistics operations in the country.
