US Charge D’Affaires to Liberia, Madam Catherine Rodriguez, has reaffirmed the USAID’s commitment to helping Liberia in various aspects.
In an exclusive interview with Radio Piso, Madam Rodriguez emphasized the importance of sustainability in USAID projects.
She highlighted the recent success of the water treatment center in Robertsport, which was completed in January 2024, and revealed plans to explore new projects and opportunities in the region.
One of the initiatives mentioned by Madam Rodriguez is the Agro Execubated Activities, which aims to provide business services for young entrepreneurs in the county.
Madam Rodriguez also addressed the establishment of the Economic and War Crimes Court in Liberia, noting that she recognizes the importance of justice for Liberians, and applauded President Joseph N. Boakai for taking the initiative to address past crimes and end the culture of impunity in the country.
US Charge D’Affaires Rodriguez praised the beauty and hospitality of the Liberian people, expressing hope that the world would discover the country’s charms.
The USAID Mission Director, Jim Wright, provided further details on the organization’s efforts in Liberia by mentioning that a grant was given for private sector investment in renovating the Wakolor Ecolodge in Robertsport, which is expected to boost tourism and create job opportunities in the area.
Director Wright also underlined the special relationship between the United States and Liberia, expressing frustration at Liberia’s current economic situation despite its abundant natural resources.
Regarding media projects in Liberia, the Mission Director said USAID is working to address various needs, set clear objectives, evaluate progress, and ensure the sustainability of their initiatives.
