Sam Worlobah, a man accused of impersonating as a medical doctor, has been formally charged with manslaughter following the death of a patient under his care.
Worlobah was arraigned before the Paynesville City Magisterial Court after investigations revealed that he had performed an unauthorized surgical procedure on a patient at an unaccredited clinic.
According to reports, Worlobah, who falsely claimed to be a medical doctor and administrator at Lofa Medics Clinic in the Neezoe Community, treated Samuel P. Kollie on March 18, 2025, for abdominal pain.
Kollie had been diagnosed with appendicitis and Hepatitis-B. Without proper credentials or authorization, Worlobah proceeded to perform surgery on Kollie and administered multiple injections.
Tragically, Kollie passed away the following day, March 19, while under observation at the clinic.
The Liberia Medical and Dental Council later confirmed that Worlobah was not a licensed surgeon and that Lofa Medics Clinic was not accredited to perform surgical procedures.
A subsequent investigation determined that Worlobah had been impersonating as a medical professional when he conducted the operation that resulted in Kollie’s death.
In response, the Ministry of Justice charged Worlobah with manslaughter and impersonating, an official stated , as outlined in Sections 14.2 and 12.35 of the New Penal Code of Liberia.
A warrant for his arrest was issued, and he was taken into custody pending trial. If convicted, Worlobah faces severe legal penalties under Liberian law.
The case has sparked outrage among medical professionals and the public, raising concerns about unlicensed medical practitioners operating in the country.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that only qualified professionals are allowed to practice medicine in Liberia.
Worlobah remains in detention as legal proceedings continue. The court is expected to set a trial date in the coming weeks.
