Several wives of personnel of the Armed Forces of Liberia, under the banner, “Army Wives Association of Liberia” are calling on the Liberian Senate to reject the confirmation of Maj. Gen. Prince C. Johnson III as Minister of Defense, due to his ‘bad record’ with the AFL while serving as Chief of Staff.
Presenting several counts in a petition to the Liberian Senate yesterday, the group spokesperson, Theredon Walker, described Johnson as a modern-day Pharaoh, and claimed that their husbands were deliberately deprived and marginalized by Gen. Johnson and former Defense Minister, Daniel Ziahnkan.
According to them, the country has not heard about the corrupt, brutal, and diabolical acts of General Johnson, but he allegedly illtreated and marginalized their husbands for years.
“General Johnson is like a father who uses his economic power to buy fans outside while his family languishes in poverty and his children run away as he comes home because of his evil demonstrated upon his family,” the women alleged.
The group emphasized that they have not come to politicize anything or exaggerate or manufacture lies against Johnson, but to urge the Senate not to confirm him due to his alleged criminal and inhumane acts against the gallant men of the AFL.
“We have registered the below counts against General Johnson and with a plea to this body to do the right thing by rejecting Gen. Johnson because of his corrupt attitude,” Madam Walker narrated.
The women also accused Gen. Johnson of refusing to give their husbands their just benefits while serving on peacekeeping mission in Mali.
She also alleged that the AFL Engineering Equipment are being rented to the Bea Mountain Mineral Company, with monthly rental fees of about US$10,000 directly to Gen. Johnson’s account.
Madam Walker emphasized that the constant marginalization and deprivation of merit and economic benefits for their husbands need urgent attention from the government.
