AFL Holds Symposium Today

The Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) is holding a one-day symposium today under the theme: “Strategies To Incorporate More Females in Security Sector: In Perspective.” The programme starts at 10:a.m at the Monrovia City Hall in Monrovia.
The AFL Day Celebration has always been used as an opportunity for the public, foreign guests and dignitaries to be acquainted with the activities regarding development and progress within the Armed Forces of Liberia.
Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, Counsellor Jamesetta Howard-Wolokollie, will serve as the keynote speaker or guest lecturer. The ceremony will bring together dignitaries from the private and public sector of both local and international community.
And those discussants for the symposium include Brigadier General Geraldine George, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL); Madam Faith A. Cooper, Country Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC); and Miss Facia Harris, Media Officer, Independent Information Commission (IIC).
Others are Ingrid Wetterqvist, Swedish Ambassador to Liberia; Cecil Griffith, Head, Center for Criminal Justice, Research and Education (CCJRE); J. Emmanuel Bowier, Prominent Citizen; Madam Asatu Bah-Kenneh, Deputy Commission of the Liberia Immigration Services (LIS) and Rustolnyn Dennis, Representative Electoral District #4, Montserrado County.
Also are Madam Sadiatu Reeves, Deputy Commissioner of the Liberia National Police (LNP); Madam Williametta Saydee-Tarr, Minister of Gender, and Madam Marie Goreth Nizigama, United Nations Country’s Representative for United Nations Women.
The Armed Forces of Liberia is celebrating its 63rd anniversary which is 112 years of existence since it came into being in 1908 from the Liberia Frontier Force (LFF), to the Liberian National Guard (LNG), and now the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).
During this year’s celebration which begins today with a symposium, several Chiefs of Defense of ECOWAS countries and personalities will be awarded with the Distinguished Service Order (DSO).
And those expected are Lt. Gen. Obed Boamah Akwa of Ghana; Lt. Gen. Brima Sesay of Sierra Leone; Lt. Gen. Lassina Doumbia of Ivory Coast; General Namory Traore of Guinea, and Col. Ebenezer O. Oduyebo of Nigeria.
Others are Lt. Sela Lawani, Nigeria/ECOWAS Advisory Training Team; Lt. Kemoh Sellue of RSLAF/ECOWAS Advisory Training Team; and Lt. Issahku Beyoteim Mohammed of the Ghana Army/ECOWAS Advisory Training Team as well as Liberia’s former Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Philip A. Z. Banks, and Madam Mary Taryonnoh Broh, Director General of the General Services Agency(GSA).
