As the Muslim community concludes their holy month of Ramadan following weeks of fasting and praying, the Grand Mufti of Liberia Sheikh Abubakar Sumaworo has cautioned Lawmakers up capitol hill to prioritize national development for the country over selfish individual gains.
The religious leader called on representatives from the House to resolve the current impasses that have divided the House into majority and minority blocs in order to restore sanity to the first branch of government.
Speaking to the nation at the breaking of the fast month at the Gurley Street Mosque in Monrovia, the Grand Mufti reminded the House of Representatives that all of its members were elected to work together with understanding for the entire population, noting that if the situation at the Legislature is not resolved, developmental agenda will continuously be undermined.
He urged the Muslims to continuously pray for Allah to increase understanding among members of the House so that everyone will see Liberia as the bigger picture and work for the rights of all citizens by putting away actions that are targeted to have personal benefits for few persons.
Citing his understanding of governmental functioning and operations, Sumaworo intimated that the Executive and Judicial branches of government will not work smoothly with the plans of the ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development if the branch that deals with lawmaking and representation for the people stands divided.
“We are calling on you lawmakers to understand one and other so that this country can be rescued. We the citizens must not be the victims of the legal or political disputes among you. Know that you were elected by different people so that you can be their representatives and leaders, so work together,” he said.
At the same time, Sheikh Abubakar Sumaworo cautioned all Muslims to complete the month of Ramadan with the full guidance of the holy Quran and listen to pronouncement of the Eid Day only from recognized authorities.
He noted that it has been observed that some individuals have ascribed to themselves authorities of Muslims elders publishing their own day for the Eid Day which is considered as impersonation cautioning those involved to desist.
Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakar Sumaworo also lauded all members of the faith for strengthening their religious tide with God and making it their duty to observe the entire month congratulating them for abstaining themselves from food and other pleasurable activities and offering prayers for the country in this time of needs.
