Following less than seventy-two hours after President Weah visited Bomi County declaring the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change’s (CDC) support for the Senatorial bid of Former Speaker Alex J. Tyler, citizens and residents of Dewein District in Bomi county Monday, November 30, 2020, pledged their support for the choice of the President.
Speaking at a well attended citizens meeting, Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism, Mr. Eugene L. Fahngon, who has gone to deputize President George M. Weah, informed the citizens and residents that the Liberian leader was concern about Dewein Citizens. He informed the citizens that he was an emissary of the president, and called on the citizens of Dewein District to put the past and political differences behind them and forge ahead with the development initiatives launched by the President.
“As an emissary of the President, I am here to tell you two things that he has instructed me to tell you my people. One is the National Referendum, and the next a bit of politics. I will first Comment on the much debated National Referendum scheduled alongside the Senatorial election on December 8, 2020.”
Deputy Minister Fahngon called on the citizens to vote in favor of the changes provided in the proposition of the Referendum. He said President Weah was optimistic that the changes provided in the Referendum will accelerate development of the country.
Deputy Minister Fahngon asserted that far too long Liberia has been plagued by few individuals who have perpetuated themselves in power at the disadvantage of the people, and the only way to remove such bad governance was to vote (Yes) to the Propositions on: Dural citizenship; President term Limit; the Legislative term, and the date for holding elections.
Minister Fahngon also assured the jubilant Citizens of the President’s pledge of his government support for the establishment of a Dewein vocational institution to contribute to the educational needs of Dewein citizens.
Minister Fahngon furthered that President Weah also instructed him to inform Dewein Citizens to support the Coalition for Democratic’s candidate, Former Speaker J. Alex Tyler if they wanted development.
Responding on behalf of Citizens and Residents of the District, the Chairman of the Dewein United for Progress and Development (DUPAD), Mr. Gregory M. Johnson thanked the President for his recognition of the Dei people. He assured the President that Dewein Citizens in and out of Bomi County were in support of the level of transformation he have done in a short period of time at the presidency. Mr. Johnson named the construction of feeder roads, market buildings, housing estates, provision of free tuitions to public universities and colleges as well as the payment of the West African Examination Council fees.
Although, DUPAD was established to vet the best candidate, whom Tyler as a candidate with another is yet to appear, Mr. Johnson asserted that as senator, Mr. Tyler would further strengthen Dewein representation at the Liberian Senate. “The Dewein people have agreed in principle to President George M. Weah’s request for us to vote for J. Alex Tyler as senator of Bomi County during the December 8, 2020 senatorial election. Tyler stood by us to have a senator, and we cannot be ungrateful.”
He said the citizens have committed themselves in making sure that they go from village to village in Dewein District to solicited votes leading to Mr. Tyler’s election as senator of Bomi County on December 8, 2020.
Speaking on behalf of the chief, the Paramount Chief of Gbanvon Clan in Dewein District, Bomi county, Chief Konah Mark lauded the Liberian leader for thinking about the Dei people and his promise to establishing a vocational institution at the Jenneh High School campus.
Chief Mark also used the occasion to appeal to President Weah to officially pay a visit to their district headquarters at Jenneh #3 Compound in Dewein District, Bomi County.
Bomi County Senator Cllr. Morris G. Saytumah, who is a staunch supporter of Former Speaker J. Alex Tyler promised to campaign vigorously throughout the county in making sure that his friend Tyler is elected by the people of Bomi at the December 8, 2020 senatorial poll.
The Bomi County lawmaker called on his supporters to work very hard in order for Tyler to be elected to the post of senator of Bomi County on December 8, 2020. He said with the support of President George M. Weah and the CDC Mr. J. Alex Tyler will be elected as senator.
Meanwhile, the meeting was grace by the Dean of the Elders Council of the National Traditional Council of Liberia, Elder Boakai Zulu, who is a son of Dewein District, women, elders, youths and local chiefs from Gbanvon, Kpahtia, Deygbo, Monfia, Upper Zor and Lower Zor Clans.
