WaterAid Liberia has donated some sanitary materials to the National Water and Sanitation Hygiene Commission (NWASHC) in the tune of US$ 82,000 to enhance the Commission’s fight against the virus in the country.
Those assorted materials include over hundreds hand washing buckets, double hand-washing facility, chloria, containers, toiletries and a hygienic kits that comprised of hand sanitizers, toothpastes, water guards 150ml, nose masks, toothbrushes, tower and a Kissi Butter bathing soap among others.
Presenting the items on last Thursday, May 28, at the NWASHC office in Monrovia, WaterAid Liberia Technical Programme Manager, Sampson Aheleh Tettey, said that the gesture is the institution’s initial contribution to the COVID-19 Response Implementation Plan in the country.
He said that since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, WaterAid Liberia has been very supportive to the NWASHC and has made numerous interventions in several communities in Montserrado and its surrounding counties, noting that the gestures was also in continuation of his organization’s support to the fight against the pandemic.
Mr. Tettey added that apart from the NWASHC, his organization is also intervening in six other communities and two counties as well as addressing the needs of over thousands homes by also distributing similar sanitary materials.
Receiving the donation, the NWASHC CEO, Bobby Whitfield, lauded WaterAid Liberia for the materials, noting that the items given will help the Commission curtail the spread or defeat the virus in the country.
Mr. Whitfield emphasized that the Commission which is the agency responsible for hygiene in the country is committed to ensuring that national government’s intent to eradicate the virus is actualized and urged the citizenry to continue adhering to the health protocols instituted by health authorities in order to defeat the pandemic.
WaterAid Liberia in collaboration with the NWASHC also presented a little over of 400 hygienic kits to administrators of the 14th Military Hospital.
