The Liberia Cement Corporation, which is generally referred to as CEMENCO, on Saturday, March 22, 2025 held its Safety Family Program for kids.
Located on Somalia Drive, Monrovia, CEMENCO, which is part of the Heidelberg Cement Group, is the main supplier of cement in the county and its engagement dates back to 1968.
The colorful program, which was held under the Theme: ‘’Keeping You and Your Family Members Safe’’, was well attended by several kids, parents, CEMENCO employees and staff.
In his welcome speech, Manoj Jha, thanked everyone for attending the Safety Family Program for kids.
Jha said, ‘‘whether you are a student, a parent or a teacher, your presence shows how much we all care about making sure we stay safe and prepared in every part of our lives.’’
‘‘Safety is something we often think about only when something goes wrong but today, we are here to learn how to make sure we stay safe every day-at home, at school, and even when we are out. This training is not just for kids; it is for families too, because safety is a team effort and we all need to work together to protect each other,’’ Jha said.
As they went through the day’s session, they talked about everything from simple things like wearing seatbelts in the car, safety at home, fire service, first aid in case of injury and many more serious topics like what to do in an emergency.
They learned how to spot potential dangers and how to handle them calmly and safely. They also practiced how to stay safe when they are at home and in their community.
“Remember, safety is not just about following rules; it is about making smart choices and being aware of what’s around us. We all have the power to keep ourselves and those we care about safe, but that starts with the right knowledge,’’ the CEMENCO official stated.
‘‘By the end of this training, I hope each of you feels more confident in knowing how to respond to any situation that come your way,’’ he added.
For his part, Nathaniel Pritchard, the Safety, Health & Environmental Manager at CEMENCO, provided the safety guidelines.
Pritchard, who urged everyone to abide by all of the rules and regulations regarding safety in the compound, reminded them that safety is everyone’s responsibility.
During the day’s session, there was drama performance about safety at home, there was a fire drill demonstration conducted by a staff of the Liberia Fire Service where the kids were taught how to extinguish fire.
There was a team activity where the kids went through safety tasks, including calling an emergency number (role play) and performing a simple first-aid task.
There was also a medical safety talk staying healthy and safe by the clinic staff as well as first aid training session conducted by a staff of the Liberia Red Cross.
