The Margibi County Detachment of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has hosted a one-day interactive forum in Kakata.
The event, held on March 13, 2025, at the Kakata Administrative Building, brought together officials from the LDEA’s national headquarters, the Margibi County Detachment, Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), students, community members, and other law enforcement officers.
The forum aimed to discourage Liberians, particularly young people, from engaging in drug abuse.
Presentations by LDEA officials covered various topics, including “The types of Drugs and their Impacts, prevention measures, and the legal consequences for violators”.
The discussions highlighted the dangers of narcotics and emphasized the importance of community involvement in preventing drug use.
Alex Flomo, the head of LDEA in Margibi County, emphasized that their role extends beyond arresting suspects to creating awareness and prevention. “Prevention is better than cure,” he noted, underscoring the need for proactive measures to protect the youth.
Flomo encouraged participants to become ambassadors of change, urging them to influence their peers who may be involved in drug-related activities.
The head of Community Outreach Services and Prevention at the LDEA, Grace G. Mulbah, highlighted Margibi County as a critical area for intervention due to its high population and significant drug involvement.
The awareness campaign focused on educating participants about the harm caused by drugs and centered on the LDEA’s three pillars: Demand Reduction, Harm Reduction, and Supply Reduction.
This initiative marks a significant step in the LDEA’s efforts to address drug abuse in Liberia, emphasizing the importance of community engagement and education in combating this issue.
By fostering awareness and encouraging active participation, the LDEA aims to safeguard the future of Liberia’s youth and strengthen the fabric of society.
