The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has announced that the Head Coach of Liberia’s Women’s National Team, Selam Zeray Kebede, has been selected as one of 29 participants in the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) newly launched Women Instructors Development Program (WIDP).
According to the LFA, the WIDP is designed to enhance the skills and expertise of women involved in coaching education and training across Africa. This initiative aligns with CAF’s goal of increasing opportunities for women in leadership roles, education, and mentorship within African football.
The selection of the women national team coach is an outstanding recognition by the continental body and will give her the opportunity to further extend her contribution to women football beyond Liberia.
The program will include both online modules and in-person training sessions, focusing on critical areas such as Leadership, Communication, Coaching Pedagogy, and Practical Knowledge. By investing in the professional growth of women coaches, CAF seeks to develop a new generation of female football leaders across the continent.
Since taking over as Liberia’s Women’s National Team Head Coach, Selam Kebede has made significant strides in coaching development. As a CAF Elite Instructor, she has been pivotal in helping the LFA design a coaching syllabus for the CAF A License, a project that culminated in the successful launch of the license in December 2024 after a decade-long wait.
The football association commended Coach Kebede for her commitment to advancing the quality of coaching in Liberia, noting that her participation in the WIDP will bring further growth to both the national team and coaching development in the country. Her selection into the program highlights her expertise and the increasing recognition of women’s contributions to football across Africa.
Further in the process, coach Selam Kebede is expected to increase her leadership across women football to other areas of concern while beefing up the women Lone Star Squad for future competitions.
