Gender Urges SUP Against ‘Politicizing’ GBV Fight -Welcomes NAYMOTE’s 2024 Assessment Report
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has welcomed the recent Performance Report issued by NAYMOTE Liberia, covering the period from January to December 2024.
The Ministry said it recognizes the importance of these assessments and is encouraged by the opportunity to reflect on their progress under Pillar 5, Gender, Youth, Children, and Social Protection, where they received a rating of 70%.
These evaluations, according to the Ministry, contribute to a national-driven effort to ensure government institutions remain accountable, delivering timely and effective services to the Liberian people.
The Ministry, in a release issued yesterday, February 24, 2025, believes that the NAYMOTE initiative is vital in urging government institutions to meet the needs of the Liberian people with excellence.
The Ministry further appreciates the thorough tracking and evaluation provided, which they pointed out plays a crucial role in holding institutions accountable for delivering high-quality services.
“While we value this feedback, we acknowledge there is room for improvement. As we look ahead to 2025, we are committed to fulfilling the Ministry’s objectives and delivering on its promises, hoping to achieve an improved rating in the next reporting period.
“In this regard, we express heartfelt gratitude to President Joseph Boakai for his overwhelming support under his leadership. His unwavering commitment to national development and dedication to delivering on key promises has been a guiding force for our work, and we are proud to contribute to his vision for a better Liberia,” the release noted.
The Ministry further extends profound thanks to all stakeholders, local and international partners and all its technicians for their critical support, which enables them to achieve their goals and positively impact the lives of those most in need.
Meanwhile, the Gender Ministry said it was taken aback by recent comments from members of the Student Unification Party (SUP), who claimed that the Gender Minister has been silent on the rising violence against women and children in Liberia.
The Ministry, among other things, strongly refutes what they described as ‘falsehoods,’ viewing the assertion/approach as a deliberate attempt to divert attention from the real issues, coupled with undermining the Ministry’s gains made over the year.
“For the record, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, under the leadership of Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie, has been very proactive in advocating for the rights of women, children, and vulnerable populations.
This includes taking appropriate action to support survivors of gender-based violence and launching an impactful legacy program that addresses the needs of children in street situations amongst others,” the release noted.
The Ministry added, “So, we urge Bendu M. Q. Kamara and the SUP Women’s Bureau to move beyond criticism and get a deeper understanding of the Ministry’s work. This, we believe, will enable the university-based student political group to better guide their statements and accurately track the Ministry’s performance, as NAYMOTE Liberia has done.”
“Again, we encourage SUP Women Bureau to refrain from politicizing the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and instead join the Ministry of Gender’s awareness campaign in promoting a violence-free community for our women and children.
We remain focused on our core mission; our steadfast commitment to providing the best quality services to the Liberian people. Once again, we extend our gratitude to NAYMOTE for their constructive feedback and encourage other professionally-driven CSOs and political-based groups to follow suit,” the release added.
