Montserrado County Senator Saah Joseph, has announced that his Dukoor Technical and Vocational Institute (DTVI), situated in New Georgia Estate, is nearing completion, with 90 percent of the construction works finalized.
The institution, according to the Senator, aims to provide free technical and vocational training to Liberians, addressing the pressing need for skilled labor in the country’s growing economy once completed.
However, with Liberia still recovering from years of civil conflict and economic instability, the need for skilled workers has never been more critical, than it is now, with many Liberians, including the youthful population still struggling for TVET education and jobs.
But the Dukoor Technical and Vocational Institute is now poised to play a pivotal role in equipping young Liberians with the necessary skills to thrive in various industries, including construction, agriculture, information technology, nursing, and hospitality among others.
Senator Joseph, a prominent figure in the Senate, has long been an advocate for education, health and youth empowerment, as his vision for the Dukoor Technical and Vocational Institute stems from a recognition of the challenges faced by young people in accessing quality education and job opportunities.
Following the touring of the facility on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, the Senator expressed his commitment to providing Liberian youths with the skills they need to succeed in today’s job market.
He, at the same time disclosed that the gigantic institute will further serve as a beacon of hope for many young Liberians who are eager to learn, including the rehabilitation of disadvantaged youths known as ‘Zogoes’ that could be remolded to contribute to Liberia’s development.
The Senator also emphasized that the institute will offer a range of programs tailored to meet the demands of the local and international job markets, asserting, “By focusing on practical skills and hands-on training, the Dukoor Institute aims to bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to enter the workforce.”
According to him, the gigantic structure being constructed on a spacious plot of land in New Georgia, will feature modern classrooms, workshops, and laboratories equipped with the latest technology to facilitate effective learning, coupled with recreational areas to promote a balanced educational experience.
He maintained that the construction of the institute has been a collaborative effort involving local contractors and community dwellers, having credit US$400,000 from a commercial bank and a contribution of over US$500,000 from his international partners.
“We have worked tirelessly and will continue to work and ensure that this facility meets international standards because our goal is to create an environment where our Liberian students can thrive and develop their skills to the fullest,” Sen. Joseph noted.
Meanwhile, one of the most significant aspects of the DTVI is its commitment to providing free education to all students, on grounds that by eliminating tuition fees, the institute aims to make vocational training accessible to all, regardless of their economic background.
Senator Joseph highlighted the importance of inclusivity in education, adding, “We believe that every young person in Liberia deserves the opportunity to learn and grow. By offering free vocational training, we are investing in the future of our country and empowering our youth to take charge of their destinies.”
