THE LIBERIA DRUG Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has made a significant breakthrough in its ongoing fight against drug trafficking, seizing 234 kilograms of cocaine valued at US$126,846 at Bo Waterside, Grand Cape Mount County.
THE SEIZURE OCCURRED on February 8, 2025, at 10:00a.m., leading to the arrest of David Dioumessy, a 45-year-old Nigerian national residing in Conakry, Guinea.
LDEA DIRECTOR GENERAL Anthony Souh disclosed at a press conference on Friday, February 14, that Dioumessy, who was traveling with a Guinean-issued ECOWAS passport (No. 001070389), was intercepted while attempting to evade a security search at a warehouse. Upon investigation, authorities discovered the illicit drugs concealed in his suitcase.
THE STREET VALUE of the confiscated cocaine is estimated at L$24,734,970. Dioumessy is currently in LDEA’s custody as authorities continue their investigations into the case.
ADDRESSING JOURNALISTS IN Monrovia, Director General Souh emphasized the need for collaborative efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse in Liberia.
THE FIGHT AGAINST drug trafficking is not just about enforcement; it also requires public awareness and rehabilitation programs for those affected by substance abuse. Because Liberia is already grappling with the devastating effects of substance abuse.
WE CALL ON the government to take decisive action in strengthening border security and intensifying intelligence-led operations to prevent Liberia from becoming a haven for drug traffickers.
WE FURTHER URGE policymakers to enact and enforce stricter anti-drug laws, ensuring that offenders face swift and severe consequences for their crimes. And the judiciary must play its role in delivering justice without delay, reinforcing the message that Liberia will not tolerate drug-related offenses.
IT IS CRUCIAL that the government prioritize efforts to educate young people on the dangers of drugs while providing support systems for those struggling with addiction.
WE BELIEVE, THE scope of operations should be broadly opened not only to nab the users of contrabands but to equally whisk the importers, the dealers, the high-profile accomplices
THE GOVERNMENT MUST also invest in law enforcement agencies like the LDEA, providing them with the necessary resources, training, and technology to combat drug trafficking effectively. For God’s sake, Liberia needs a comprehensive and sustained approach to protect its citizens and safeguard its future from the devastating impact of illicit drugs.
BE A PATRIOT and safe Liberia’s future against the scourge of drug, by reporting suspicious drug related cases at the community level, as this is a concerted effort, with all hands on deck in fighting against this common enemy called drug.
