The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection says it is deeply troubled by the recent surge in violence against women, girls and children across Liberia.
Recent reports have highlighted several distressing incidents, including the tragic death of little Angel whose lifeless body was recently discovered with several parts allegedly missing.
It was reported that little Angel was abused and strangled to death, while a host of other cases from across the country have been reported.
These heinous acts underscore the urgent need for comprehensive action to prevent such cruelty, especially when perpetrated by individuals who should be protectors and caregivers.
The Ministry is deeply troubled by this alarming trend, as these actions not only violate their fundamental human rights but also impede our nation’s social development.
The Ministry unequivocally condemns these inhumane abuses, some of which have led to the untimely deaths of promising children.
These inhumane actions continue to impede national progress and further undermine the gains we have made in ending violence against women and girls.
Gender Minister Gbeme Horace-Kollie empathizes with families who have lost a child as a result to violence or abuse.
Minister Horace-Kollie called on the Ministry of Justice to intervene swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
She indicated that a prompt action from state prosecutors and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advocating for and accelerating efforts to eradicate violence against women, girls, children, and vulnerable populations.
“The Ministry remains steadfast in addressing the growing concern of abuse and we will continue to work collaboratively with partners, law enforcement agencies to end violence in all its forms,” she stated.
“We call on all citizens, including members of the Christian and Muslim communities, as well as our partners, to unequivocally denounce these attacks on our women and girls. Let us unite and accelerate efforts to end violence against women, girls, and children now,” Minister Horace-Kollie concluded.
