By Bill W. Cooper
The president of the Liberia Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention, Samuel B. Reeves has cautioned all Baptists in Liberia to unite and desist from fighting amongst themselves.
He encouraged his colleagues to work together and avoid undermining each other, emphasizing, “Baptists, God has given us a second chance as such, let’s hold together.”
Rev. Reeves spoke Sunday, during a program marking the 42nd graduation ceremony of the Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary.
Former Foreign Minister, Maxwell Kemeyah, a member of the Baptist Church, has been very vocal against one of his colleagues, President Joseph Boakai, who is also the Deacon of the Effort Baptist Church, about his poor handling of the affairs of the country.
But Rev. Reeves also disclosed that it is about time that Baptists support and lift each other and desist from fighting, noting, “The first was former President William R. Tolbert and now is Deacon, President Boakai. Let’s take what God has given to us, value and use it in order to transform our nation.”
He explained that with unity and togetherness, Baptists will transform theological institutions in Liberia, informing the gathering that over the years, a lot has happened for Baptists, and he said with unity, much more will happen.
“We are now taking our rightful place at the front of the land, the first school was established by the Baptist, the first medical facility was established by the Baptist, and the first premier Theological institution in Liberia was also established by the Baptist.
So, we can do even more once we stop fighting each other and working together because it is important to know what you have, Value, and use it for the betterment of the society,” he narrated.
According to the prelate turned politician, because of the condition of transparency and unity, the Baptist Seminary is moving to higher heights and added that the convention has created an atmosphere where every Baptist is valued.
