The Governor of the Municipal Borough of New Kru Town, Robert B. Teah, held a meeting with the Ambassador of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Josephine Nkrumah, during what is being termed an “Acquaintance visit.”
During their discussions yesterday, Governor Teah expressed deep appreciation to Ambassador Nkrumah for the significant role ECOWAS played during the Liberian civil crisis, noting how the regional organization’s efforts helped restore peace and stability to Liberia.
“I am truly grateful to ECOWAS for the role it played in bringing peace to Liberia during the civil crisis. The cordiality that exists among ECOWAS member countries is something we must continue to uphold, and Liberia is proud to be a part of this harmonious relationship,” Governor Teah remarked during the meeting.
The Governor also extended special congratulations to Ambassador Nkrumah for her appointment as the first female ambassador to ECOWAS, praising her leadership in representing West Africa’s collective interests.
Governor Teah presented his development agenda for the Municipal Borough of New Kru Town, highlighting the many challenges the borough faces in terms of infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
He emphasized the urgent need for collaboration and support from both the government and international partners, including ECOWAS, to address these issues.
Ambassador Nkrumah thanked Governor Teah for the warm reception and assured him of her full support.
“This is a wonderful visit, and I assure you that ECOWAS will continue to stand by you as you work to develop your borough,” Nkrumah said.
She also praised Governor Teah for his leadership and expressed confidence in his ability to transform New Kru Town into a modern and prosperous community.
Governor Teah, in addition to his meeting with Ambassador Nkrumah, has visited several embassies, including the Nigerian Embassy, to further his development agenda for New Kru Town.
He reiterated his commitment to working with all residents, including the youth, women, and elders, to foster a collective effort toward the borough’s transformation.
“I am sincerely open to all residents of the Borough. We must work together, hand in hand, to transform New Kru Town from its current state to a place that will be appreciated by all well-meaning citizens,” Governor Teah said.
The Governor also emphasized the need for collaboration among all sectors of society to ensure that the borough’s development is inclusive and effective.
He pledged to incorporate the views and input of all community members in the decision-making process.
“We must now transform this borough through the collaborative efforts of all citizens. I am committed to ensuring that we reduce the poor outlook of the Borough and work towards a better future for all its residents,” Governor Teah stated.
Reflecting on the history of New Kru Town, Governor Teah recalled that since the passage of the 1916 Act, which established the borough, little progress had been made in terms of development.
However, he remains optimistic about the future and is determined to bring about significant change through the ARREST agenda of President George Weah.
“I depend on the support of the citizens to promote the ARREST agenda, and together, we can make New Kru Town a development model,” Governor Teah said.
The Governor concluded his remarks by calling on all residents of New Kru Town for “sincere cooperation and coordination,” stressing that their collective efforts will result in a positive transformation of the borough.
“Let us work together to bring about a new era for New Kru Town,” he concluded.
