City Court Charges Rep. Cole For Persistent Non-Support

By Precious D. Freeman
The Monrovia City Magisterial Court at the Temple of Justice, on November 26, 2024, issued a writ of arrest for Bong County District 3 Representative in Marvin Cole, in connection with charges of persistent non-support.
The writ was filed by Clara Asibu, on behalf of her minor daughter identified as Rebecca Cole.
The complaint alleged that Rep. Cole, identified as the biological father of his alleged minor child, has failed to provide financial support since the pregnancy’s inception.
According to Ms. Asibu, this neglect has left her, the mother and their child without essential provisions such as food, shelter, and clothing.
The case was brought under Section 16.5 of Liberia’s New Penal Law, which criminalizes the failure of a parent to support their child.
The Private Prosecutrix claimed that Rep. Cole’s actions are unlawful, unconstitutional, and violate the dignity and peace of Liberia.
The writ, signed by the court’s clerk, Daniel Y. McGill, authorized Captain Charles Bloyuefloh of the Magistrate Police or his deputy to apprehend Rep. Cole and present him before the court.
The legal directive aims to ensure that Rep. Cole answers to the charges of neglect and fulfills his parental responsibilities.
The case has drawn public attention as it underscores the critical issue of child support enforcement in Liberia.
The court proceedings are expected to shed light on the matter, with advocates calling for stricter measures to ensure compliance with parental duties.
This is a developing story and further developments will follow as the case progresses through the legal system.
