President Joseph Boakai has urged citizens of both Sierra Leone, and Liberia to collaborate in forging a path of continued cooperation that meets their shared hopes and aspirations.
This visit marks a new chapter in the Liberia-Sierra Leone partnership, signaling a unified vision for a stronger, more resilient West Africa.
During a formal address at the State House in Freetown, President Boakai emphasized, the profound historical and cultural connections shared by the two countries.
According to him, the purpose of his visit is to engage in meaningful dialogue on critical bilateral and regional issues adding “Today, we gather to engage in meaningful dialogue with my esteemed younger brother and counterpart, President Julius Maada Bio.”
President Boakai expressed optimistic that under the guidance of President Bio, Sierra Leone continues to thrive, reconcile, and foster even greater relations within the region.
“The relationship between Liberia and Sierra Leone has evolved into a mutually beneficial partnership, enhancing socio-economic growth and strengthening our bilateral ties” he noted.
President Boakai however, highlighted Liberia’s “ARREST” development initiative which explores opportunities for aligning it with Sierra Leone’s “Transformative Acceleration Agenda,” emphasizing food security, human capital development, youth empowerment, technology, infrastructure, and public service reform.
He also extended his heartfelt appreciation for the exceptional hospitality, commending the warm reception and generosity shown to his delegation.
Meanwhile, with growing tensions in the West African sub-region, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace and stability, while discussing key issues including regional security, economic integration, and development cooperation.
The discussions concluded with both leaders reaffirming their shared commitment to fostering regional integration through frameworks such as the Mano River Union (MRU), ECOWAS, AU, and the United Nations.
This historic visit marks a pivotal moment in strengthening the enduring ties between the two neighboring nations, fostering a secure and prosperous future for all, leaving no one behind.
