The president of the William VS Tubman University (TU) in Harper, Maryland County, Dr. Olu Menjay, has secured 10 international scholarships for the university’s graduates, marking a significant step in enhancing global opportunities for students at Liberia’s second state-run institution.
During a recent seminar in China, invited by the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Dr. Menjay participated in discussions focused on strengthening educational cooperation between China and Liberia.
The seminar, themed “Deeper Cooperation and Development,” brought together key global stakeholders to explore the role of the People’s Republic of China in Liberia’s educational landscape.
While attending the seminar, Dr. Menjay announced that, as a result of the discussions, 10 scholarship slots had been secured for prospective graduates of Williams VS Tubman University.
These students will be selected to study abroad, further expanding the university’s commitment to providing international opportunities for its graduates.
In a follow-up statement, Dr. Menjay revealed that the university is already seeing success on the global stage.
One recent graduate is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Construction Engineering at Johns Hopkins University in the United States, demonstrating the caliber of students at TU.
The university is also working to enhance its academic offerings.
Dr. Menjay noted that Tubman University is in the process of hiring more professors, particularly PhD holders, to strengthen its engineering and other academic programs.
The president’s long-term vision is to elevate the institution to one of the leading universities in Africa.
In an exclusive phone interview on November 13, 2024, Dr. Menjay shared his ambitious goal of ensuring that 60% of the university’s graduates have international exposure by the time they complete their studies.
This initiative is set to be launched in January 2025 and will support students in achieving their educational and professional aspirations.
Dr. Menjay announced the acquisition of a new 40-seater bus for the university, aimed at improving transportation for students traveling from Pleebo-Sodoken District in Maryland County.
The bus, which will arrive soon, is expected to alleviate some of the transportation challenges being faced by students commuting to and off campus.
Looking ahead, Dr. Menjay also confirmed that the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police, George Coleman, will serve as the keynote speaker at Williams VS Tubman University’s 11th graduation ceremony, scheduled for December 1-2, 2024.
The message at the baccalaureate service will be delivered by Rev. Dr. Attah of the AME University.
These developments reflect Dr. Menjay’s ongoing efforts to elevate the university’s profile and provide students with enhanced educational and professional opportunities both at home and abroad.
