A specialized anti-corruption and integrity-building training program for the Liberia National Police (LNP) was officially launched in Monrovia on Thursday, November 14, 2024.
About 50 officers took part in the initiative aimed at reinforcing accountability, transparency, and ethical practices within the force.
The program held at LNP headquarters, is a collaborative effort between the LNP and the Center for Transparency and Accountability in Liberia (CENTAL), with funding from the Swedish Embassy in Liberia.
CENTAL’s Executive Director Anderson Miamen emphasized the organization’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with law enforcement, particularly the LNP, to combat corruption.
Miamen highlighted the importance of equipping officers with a thorough understanding of anti-corruption laws to enhance accountability within the force.
“We are committed to building a culture of accountability, integrity, and ethical behavior within the Liberia National Police,” he said, adding that CENTAL’s partnership with LNP represents a proactive step toward reducing corruption.
Police Inspector General Gregory Coleman also addressed participants, expressing gratitude to CENTAL for spearheading the initiative.
Coleman reinforced that policing is primarily a service-oriented profession, underscoring the necessity of maintaining accountability, integrity and ethical standards.
“The Police job is more of service than force,” Coleman stated. “We must sustain accountability and integrity at the highest level.”
The training aims to enhance officers’ skills in detecting, preventing, and addressing corruption, fostering a culture of transparency and responsibility within Liberia’s police force.
The involvement of CENTAL and support from the Swedish Embassy mark a significant move towards building a more accountable and trusted law enforcement system in Liberia.
With 50 officers now equipped with anti-corruption knowledge, this initiative is set to play a crucial role in strengthening public trust and fostering a responsible, service-focused police force in Liberia.
