All Hands On Deck For Vehicles Inspection

The Ministry of Transport(MoT), in collaboration with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), the Liberia National Police (LNP), and the Liberia National Fire Service (LNFS), has resolved all contentious issues over vehicle inspection and is set to commence joint inspections.
The public is advised to act accordingly and be in compliance with said regulation to avoid future embarrassment.
On Tuesday November 13, at a press briefing hosted by the Ministry of Information, Assistant Minister for Land and Rail, Zunu Duyann, outlined the Transport Ministry’s intentions for the inspection campaign, which aims to improve road safety by ensuring that vehicles meet safety standards.
He specified that, vehicles would need essential safety items, such as fire extinguishers, roadworthiness certifications, and proper safety gear, as part of the inspection requirements.
Duyann added that vehicles failing to meet these standards would be removed from the roads, with non-compliance possibly resulting in fines or other penalties.
He further explained that the inspections would help reduce traffic congestion, target high-accident areas, and encourage a culture of safe driving.
On Thursday, November 14 in a joint press statement from the MoT and LNP, the enforcement and compliance exercises of motor vehicles and Tricycles (Kekeh) will begin on Monday, November 18, 2024, across Montserrado County and its surrounding areas.
“This inspection exercise aligns with Liberia’s 1973 Motor Vehicle and Traffic Law, which requires that all motor vehicles on public roads within the Republic of Liberia be registered, insured, and operated by drivers or riders with valid driver’s licenses,” the release concluded.
