President Joseph Boakai has paid glowing tribute to the late Alhaji Amadu Sheriff, during a solemn 40-day memorial service at his family residence in Monrovia.
The memorial service was held on Sunday, November 10, in Monrovia, bringing together government officials, dignitaries, and family members alongside the Islamic community in honor of the fallen esteemed community leader.
President Boakai praised Alhaji Sheriff for his unwavering commitment to his community and the nation.
He described Sheriff as a dedicated and selfless leader whose contributions to Liberia’s peace and development will be remembered for years.
According to him, their visit was not only to honor the memory of Sheriff but also to participate in a gathering that unites the Islamic community, fosters harmony among different faiths, and strengthens their collective commitment to Liberia’s future.
He added that the late Sheriff served not only his community but the whole of Liberia. “It is now our time to give back and carry forward the values he stood for, including peace, unity, and national pride,” the President divulged.
“We are a great nation with incredible potential. Our progress may have been delayed, but this delay does not mean denial. If we work together, Liberia can and will move forward,” President Boakai lamented.
The President highlighted Liberia’s resilience and collective potential, stressing that through unity and a common vision, the nation can overcome past challenges.
He however, acknowledged the Muslim community and the family for hosting what he called an “auspicious commemoration,” a moment he described as a testament to Liberia’s unity and respect for diverse traditions and creeds.
In response to the President’s message, the Political Leader of the All Liberian Coalition Party (ALCOP), Alhaji Lusinee Kamara, expressed appreciation for President Boakai’s support to the Sheriff’s family and the broader community.
“The memorial event served as a testament to Liberia’s dedication to honoring the contributions of its citizens and underscored President Boakai’s commitment to promoting national unity across the country’s diverse communities,” he said.
He praised the President’s leadership style, emphasizing his efforts to unite Liberia, and reaffirmed ALCOP’s unwavering support for the government’s initiatives aimed at strengthening the nation.
