The Ministry of Internal Affairs(MIA) has appointed 36 new officials to serve in various sub-county local government structures in Grand Bassa County.
The ceremony which took place over the weekend, brought together local officials, chiefs, elders, youth, and civil society representatives to show support for their leaders and engage in efforts toward constructive governance.
Speaking on behalf of Internal Affairs Minister F. Sakila Nyumalin, Assistant Minister for Research and Development Planning, D. Emmanuel Wheinyue, emphasized the importance of unity, stating, “No county can develop if the people are divided amongst themselves.”
He urged the newly appointed officials to collaborate effectively to implement the government’s ARREST Agenda for Inclusive Development.
Wheinyue, however announced the upcoming validation exercises in each capital, which will be pivotal in shaping the county’s development plans. He provided insights into the Local Government Act of 2018, which aims to decentralize administrative, fiscal, and political powers, thereby facilitating greater local governance.
“Under this framework, County Administrations are established, led by the Superintendent, who acts as the Chief Executive Officer, supported by a 9-member County Council,” he added.
Wheinyue called upon the youth to embrace their roles as future leaders and advocates for positive change. He also encouraged chiefs and elders to continue their support for effective governance.
Meanwhile, the ceremony concluded with the induction of the 36 officials, including Statutory District Superintendents, Administrative District Commissioners, and City Mayors. Each official was reminded of their vital role in ensuring effective governance and promoting community participation in local development initiatives.
Assistant Minister Wheinyue, on behalf of the Internal Affairs Minister, administered the officials Oath of Office to the appointees, marking the beginning of their commitment to diligently serve the people of Grand Bassa County.
