Veep Taylor Vents Anger …Stays Away From Yesterday’s Opening Session For Reported Non-Support To Her Office:

The conspicuous absence of the President of the Liberian Senate, Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor, from the opening of the 3rd Session of the 54th Legislature may have confirmed what a stalwart of the National Patriotic Party and many others had alluded to as a ‘troubling situation’ within the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) leadership.
The President of the Liberia Senate who is also by law the presiding officer of the Senate’s plenary was noticeably absent from the parade which is done before the hoisting of the counties’ flags and the resumption of the official ceremonies that should precede the opening of 3rd session for normal business in the Liberian Senate yesterday.
The President Pro-tempore, serving as presiding officer in the chamber of the Liberian Senate informed his colleagues that, “The Vice President and the President of the Senate has an emergency situation and is unable to be with us; in line with the Constitution, she asked me to carry on the normal business of the Senate.”
The Vice President’s absence from the entire ceremony was noticeable as despite of her earlier notice to the Pro-temp, yet her name was placed in the program to make the official opening address.
However, on Sunday, Mr. Cornelius Hunter who seemingly came in defense of his political leader bringing to the fore, that which Madam Taylor has refused to comment on regarding her status within the Coalition to date, confessed, “Sadly all is still not well, after series of mediation efforts within the ruling coalition government.”
The politician who had earlier hit the ice berg via social media explaining what he foresees as this ‘troubling situation’ surrounding the Vice President among other concerns said, the Vice President had not gone to work or attended major functions for the past three weeks or more due to the various threats and inadequate support to her office.
The fortnight ago, Mr. Hunter raised serious concerns by the events and trends that are unfolding within the leadership of the CDC yet stressed that Madam Taylor deserves to be treated and accorded all rights, courtesies, privileges, benefits and respect assigned to a Vice President under the laws.
“Let me state clearly for the records, that she remains the political leader of the NPP within the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change and will no longer hereafter sit supinely to witness what has unfolded to continue unabated without serious corrective measures being taken to avert this trend of grossed disrespect and disregard to her,” Mr. Hunter stated.
The NPP stalwart stated out-rightly reminded that, “For this country to progress and move forward, there must be peace, unity of purpose and genuine reconciliation amongst all Liberians; having a say and stake in our national agenda.”
Mr. Hunter said everyone has sinned or made mistakes in their daily lives therefore, he does not suggest in any way that Veep Taylor is a Saint but, “A house divided against itself cannot make any real progress. This has got to end for the good of all country.”
Among other things, Hunter mentioned that Madam Taylor, currently has no official armored vehicle since the last one was taken for repairs and or servicing nor is there any security vehicle assigned to her office and that the Vice President is hardly consulted or in the know of most of the decisions taken in the party, let alone the country and that there is a glaring lack of respect to her office from members of the party and officials of government.
Mr. Hunter stated further that such allegations are grave and if true, they are unacceptable and regrettable under his watch thereby calling on President George Weah to exercise wisdom in bringing this to a closure at the pending national retreat scheduled for February 14 in Monrovia.
Meanwhile, reports from the Liberian Senate says Pro-temp Albert Chie has in his possession a communication from the Vice President in which she earlier notified that body through him that she will not be gracing the opening of the 3rd Session due to several concerns raised and that her absence apparently should be seen as a form of an initial protest.
