At LKF National League-2 Championship: Rising Star Mary Willie Shines

Mary Willie, a promising young player from Destiny Girls Kickball Club of Margibi County, delivered an outstanding performance at the recent Liberia Kickball Federation National League-2 Championship and Promotional Playoff held on October 13 at the Gompa Sports Stadium.
Her efforts did not only help her team clinch the championship title with a commanding 7-0 victory over United Angels KC, but also earned her three prestigious individual awards.
Willie, currently on loan from Zion Sisters KC, was named the Queen of the Match in the grand finale, marking her fourth such honor in this year’s competition which is a record achievement for any player involved.
She previously secured the award in her team’s victories against Wonder KC, Suah Hope KC, and Talented Girls KC, underscoring her consistent excellence throughout the tournament.
In addition to the ‘Queen of the Match’s accolade, Willie was recognized as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and claimed the title for the Highest Home Run with an impressive total of 11 home runs.
This achievement positions her ahead of competitors, including Felicia Gibson of Mature Sisters KC, who recorded 8 home runs but whose team did not progress to the knockout stage.
This year marks Willie’s third appearance in the LKF National League, following her participation with Zion Sisters KC in Grand Bassa County and in Kakata, Margibi County.
Her remarkable performance has made her the first player from Destiny Girls KC and Margibi County to receive three individual awards in this competition’s history.
Mary Willie’s achievements extend beyond this tournament. She has previously earned recognition in the Margibi County District League and the LKF-Margibi Sub-association League, where she consistently demonstrated her prowess on the field.
With a bright future ahead, Willie reflects on her journey, acknowledging the influence of her former coach, Jerry Kennedy, who played a crucial role in her development as an athlete.
While there may be uncertainties regarding her future with Margibi County, her recent accomplishments signal a promising career in kickball.
