The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Street Child, a global children’s charity, has commended the Liberian Government for its strong political commitment to improving access to education for children.
Street Child works in over 25 countries, focusing on overcoming barriers that prevent children from learning in safe environments.
During his visit to Liberia, Tom Dannatt, the founder and CEO, praised the government’s efforts as part of the “Street Child Project” launched in August 2024 under the theme “Support A Child, Save The Future.”
Led by the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, the project aims to enroll 50,000 street-connected children in school.
Mr. Dannatt met with Gbeme Horace-Kollie, Minister of Gender, and Deputy Minister of Education, Nyekeh Forkpa, highlighting the strong cooperation between government ministries to address the needs of street children.
He emphasized, “The Liberian Government, led by President Joseph Boakai, has shown a deep commitment to long-term initiatives that will get thousands of children off the streets and into the classrooms. This is the best way to give these children a chance at a better future.”
His visit follows a high-level meeting at the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) in New York in September, which included President Boakai and Minister Horace-Kollie.
The event stressed the need for cross-sector collaboration to achieve universal primary education, ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education.
Street Child was founded in 2008.
The organization works globally to ensure that children are safe, in school, and learning, especially in low-resource environments.
It partners with local entities, emphasizing the power of grassroots organizations in advancing children’s rights across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
