Mustapha Raji, President of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), has expressed profound gratitude towards former LFA President Counsellor Izetta Wesley for her foundational work in football administration. Speaking to football stakeholders at the LFA headquarters, Raji credited Wesley’s leadership for laying the groundwork that has allowed his administration to enhance and develop Liberian football over the past six years.
Reflecting on the past, Raji highlighted the significant impact of Wesley’s tenure, particularly noting the benefits derived from the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) Futuro II Football Administration Course. “It’s on this basis and foundation that we have been able to transform and advance football, as well as introduce new developments at all levels,” Raji said.
Raji reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to building the capacity of Liberian football stakeholders, emphasizing their commitment to continue fostering opportunities for growth within the sport. “We remain committed to delivering and building the capacity of all Liberians involved in football,” Raji stated.
The occasion marked the opening of a three-day FIFA Football Administration Course for 120 Liberian football administrators. Raji encouraged participants to follow the career path that has led him to notable positions, including a seat on the CAF Executive Committee and the role of WAFU Vice President.
The event was graced by Sports Minister Cllr. J. Cole Bangalu, who reaffirmed his ministry’s support for the LFA. “The Ministry of Youth and Sports is dedicated to collaborating with the LFA,” Bangalu said. “Liberians are deeply passionate about football, which has also become a significant source of employment.”
Cllr. Izetta Wesley, the lead facilitator of the course, expressed her appreciation for the LFA’s initiative in offering the Football Administrator Course. “Often, discussions focus on referees and coaches, but the role of administration is crucial,” Wesley noted. “I’m thrilled that President Raji recognized the importance of administration in making football operations successful.”
The training will feature lectures from notable figures including Atty. Benedict Yarsiah, former FIFA referee Alex Nagbo, and Davidson Kerkula.
This course represents a significant step in enhancing the skills and knowledge of football administrators in Liberia, ensuring continued progress and development in the nation’s football sector.
