MPC Condemns CDC Headquarters Violence

The Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has issued a strong condemnation of the unrest and urged the government to ensure transparency in addressing the situation.
The MPC made the pronouncement in the wake of recent violent clashes between the Liberia National Police (LNP) and supporters of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
MPC political leader Simeon Freeman expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence, calling for fair play and an end to the blame game.
In the statement released by the MPC, Freeman emphasized the need for the Liberian government to provide a clear and truthful account of the events that led to the outbreak of violence at the CDC headquarters.
“Citizens of Liberia deserve transparency and accountability,” the MPC statement read. “The government must tell the Liberian people the truth about what happened at the CDC headquarters. There must be consequences for such massive disruptions and the injuries inflicted upon the people and the state.”
The MPC urged the government to take decisive action in preventing future violence, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the country.
The party called on authorities to implement preventive measures that would safeguard both public safety and economic activities in Liberia.
The recent clashes, which marked the second violent confrontation between the LNP and CDC supporters in less than a month, have raised concerns about escalating tensions.
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, the LNP deployed riot police near the CDC headquarters in anticipation of planned protests across Monrovia and while the situation quickly escalated, police used tear gas to disperse crowds while CDC supporters retaliating by throwing stones, creating widespread panic.
As the situation remains tense, the MPC is calling for transparency and accountability underscores the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
The party has demanded that the government provide a full and accurate account of the incidents to prevent further unrest.
