“Liberia’s Education System Has Improved” —Catholic School Principal Hails Gov’t

The newly appointed Principal of the St. Joseph High Catholic School in Sinoe County, Augustine S. Young has recognized the substantial progress in Liberia’s education sector under the leadership of President Joseph Boakai.
Young also commended the government through Ministry of Education (MOE) for its commitment to supporting and promoting quality education across the country, ensuring that the citizenry gets the needed and quality education so desired.
Speaking moment after Liberia’s 177th Flag Day celebration in Sinoe over the weekend, at Greenville City Hall on Saturday, Young said the MOE has established a standard requiring all Education Officers (EOs) across Liberia to be experienced, trained, and qualified professionals.
He believes that said initiative will significantly enhance the quality of education nationwide, and emphasized the importance of high-quality early childhood education, which provides essential opportunities for children to learn and develop, giving them the best possible start in life.
He also urged parents to actively support and encourage their children in pursuing quality education, thus reflecting on the symbolic importance of Liberia’s national flag, which represents the country’s past, present, and future.
Principal Young also called on school administrators to ensure that Civics is taught at the elementary and junior high levels, pointing out that many students and some teachers struggle to correctly sing the national anthem.
“During national events, it is often difficult to hear students and teachers sing the anthem accurately, and it is concerning that many of today’s students cannot correctly name the seven women who made our flag,” he asserted.
The Catholic school principal then emphasized the need for greater respect for the national flag, describing it as a reflection of the nation’s collective honor, pride, and allegiance.
Meanwhile, following the Flag Day celebration, Rev. Johnson Jasay Naoh awarded a scholarship to outgoing 12th-grade student Tina Klay from Sinoe Multilateral High School in recognition of her outstanding performance during the event.
The scholarship will allow her to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree at a university of her choice.
Rev. Naoh called on school administrators, parents, and educational stakeholders in Sinoe County to focus on improving the county’s school system to ensure the best outcomes for their students.
