The Government of Liberia has officially welcomed Mark Toner as the new U.S. Ambassador to Liberia, marking a significant step in strengthening the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
Serving as Deputy Spokesperson for the State Department and Senior Advisor for the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe, Amb. Toner is positioned well to navigate and strengthen the bilateral ties.
On Wednesday August 7, 2024, Ambassador Toner presented his credentials to President Joseph Boakai at the Executive Mansion, reaffirming the mutual dedication to development and security.
President Boakai highlighted the historical and strategic bonds that unite Liberia and the United States and highlighted the crucial role of U.S. support in Liberia’s socio-economic development and stability.
According to him, the partnership between the two nations has been a pillar of strength for Liberia, and Liberians look forward to deepening this cooperation to foster economic growth and enhance regional security.
He added that, the arrival of Amb. Toner is seen as a positive step towards enhancing trade relations and expanding collaborative efforts in various sectors.
Toner emphasized his personal connection to Liberia, having served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the country and noted that, it has provided him a deep understanding of Liberia’s culture and the challenges it faces.
According to him, it is an honor to return to Liberia and that he looks forward to working closely with the Liberian government and its people to further their shared goals.
Meanwhile, as both nations commit to a future of mutual support and cooperation, Amb. Toner’s tenure is anticipated to bring new opportunities for economic development and reinforce the partnership that has been a cornerstone of US-Liberia relations.
