“Any individual found pursuing hidden agendas will be dismissed immediately,” these were the exact words of President Joseph Boakai as he reminded his cabinet and other government officials that their primary duties are to serve the Liberian people.
Making the emphasis during the fifth cabinet meeting held at the Executive Mansion on Friday, August 2, 2024, President Boakai warned officials against using his administration to undermine his government.
According to him, when they began appointing ministers, they chose individuals with integrity, who love the country and desire its prosperity pointing out that if this principle is compromised, it suggests a governmental error, which he insists is not the case.
“Liberia is now 177 years old. It is time for the government to understand that the citizens are suffering and the government must serve the people of this country and should prioritize their needs,” President Boakai echoed.
He added, “If you come to the cabinet with the intention of repeating past behaviors and we have sufficient information, the government will take action against you.”
“If the government identifies and becomes familiar with them, you will be required to leave. Your departure will mark the end of your involvement and at that point; the government will have no further reason to return to the person who recommended you,” President Boakai stressed.
President Boakai emphasized that, cabinet members and all government officials must adhere to the highest ethical standards stating that any deviation from these standards will face zero tolerance.
Meanwhile, President Boakai sternly instructed Attorney-General Oswald Tweh to take firm and decisive action against corruption adding that, they should prosecute individuals identified in audit reports without hesitation.
He concluded that, despite potential accusations of a witch-hunt, his administration’s pursuit of justice would be unwavering, and they will run after them and bring them to justice even if they call it a witch-hunt, but the Liberian people will appreciate.
