In a significant gesture of appreciation to his roots, Ambassador Bill Morgan Rogers officially presented his National Awards to the Ministry of Youth and Sports on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The awards ceremony took place in front of a historic audience as part of the recently concluded July 26 Independence Day celebration.
Rogers, who began his illustrious career at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has since risen to international prominence. His contributions to athletics, sports, and physical therapy have earned him national recognition, marking a proud moment for the young Liberian diplomat, educator, and sports icon.
He was honored for his outstanding contributions to the country and the global community. Over the years, he has also been a dedicated humanitarian, working tirelessly to empower young Liberians and help them become productive members of society.
In his speech, Rogers dedicated the award to the talented yet struggling youth of Liberia, who continue to face significant challenges across the country.
He used his own life story to motivate his peers, emphasizing the importance of persistence and consistency in achieving greatness.
“Despite your current situation, you need to remain focused, committed, and humble,” Rogers advised.
Reflecting on his journey, he shared that his path had not been easy, but he persevered and did not let his past dictate his future.
Rogers urged young Liberians to seize every opportunity and make the most of their chances, just as he did.
He expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for recognizing his contributions, viewing it as a motivation to continue his impactful work.
“You need to have passion, a positive mindset, and resilience to make an impact in society,” Rogers stated. “See me as an example, and use my story to inspire change in Liberia. If I can do it, so can you, and even more.” Highlighting his contributions, Rogers revealed that he has provided national and international opportunities for over ten young people, enabling them to prepare and contribute to Liberia’s development. Through the Bill Rogers Foundation, he continues to give back to society.
Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. J. Cole Bangalu commended Rogers for his efforts, noting that he has made Liberia proud through his work.
Minister Bangalu described Rogers as a true example for young Liberians to emulate and encouraged him to continue his valuable contributions. From a track athlete to a professor, Rogers is now molding the minds of young people across the globe, particularly at Houston Texas University in the United States of America. Rogers’ dedication and achievements serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for the youth of Liberia, demonstrating that with determination and hard work, greatness is within reach.
