Former President George Weah announces plans to unprecedentedly lead a protest against the barely one year rule of the Boakai-led government.
Accusing the Unity Party administration of engaging in a “witch-hunt” against his officials in the name of fighting corruption, the former President made the pronouncement Wednesday with assurance saying, “We will mobilize our partisans in the coming days to resist this Witch-hunt.”
Addressing his party members on July 31, 2024, during a press conference at his Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) party’s headquarters in Congo Town, Weah stressed, “And we call on other partisans to join us.”
Among his expressed concern over what he described as a systematic targeting of his former officials by the Boakai-led government, Weah alleged that the current administration is using their fight against corruption as a pretense to settle political scores.
The immediate past President roared, “My fellow citizens, amidst the proceedings of the Boakai, the CDC will bring the full force its political resources against any attempt by Boakai to weaponize the legal system of our country to witch-hunt key officials of the CDC-led administration.”
Weah added, “President Boakai, supported by his team of confidants has shown to the world that he is a man against the rule of law, but I say to you today that, the CDC will use every political and legal means against this government.”
Details to follow subsequently.
