Dozens of elderly individuals, including many aging single mothers, received food and non-food items from Word of Life International (WLI), a non-profit faith-based organization.
The distribution event, held at WLI’s church in Pipeline, Paynesville, was themed “Reaching the Unreached” and was part of the organization’s Helping Hand Initiative.
The donations included ten 25-kilogram bags of rice, oil, soft drinks, water, and cash, helping the recipients prepare for Liberia’s Independence Day celebration.
This event marked the sixth consecutive year that WLI, under the leadership of Dr. Sam Ndorleh, has provided Independence Day gifts to the elderly in Liberia.
78-year-old Clingweh Lewis expressed her joy and gratitude for the donation saying, “I want to tell them thank you because I’m a sick person who has nobody to help me. I’m a single mother with grandchildren. With this rice and lapper, I think I can have something to wear and make myself happy that day.”
Other beneficiaries, including Ma-Cecelia George, 59, and Deacon Hilary Glutoe, also expressed their appreciation and noted, “We want to thank the church and this organization for the continued support and concern towards us. They always make us feel like family and important. We want God to bless Dr. Ndorleh, wherever he takes this money from. We also want the government and partners to help him. The burden is too much for him.”
Augustine Ndorbor, Acting Head of the Word of Life International Helping Hand Initiative, emphasized the importance of the donations in line with Liberia’s 177th anniversary celebration.
“The food and non-food items given to the old folks is in demonstration with Liberia’s anniversary celebration,” he said, adding that the program aims to give Liberian elderly and single mothers a reason to smile during festive seasons.
Rebecca Nyamndo, coordinator of WLI’s Ageing Program, highlighted the transparency and accountability of the initiative.
“Our fathers, our grandfathers, and our mothers will receive three pieces of lapper. The equal contribution of the food and non-food items shows our love for you,” she stated.
WLI, a charity organization, focuses on supporting elderly individuals and single mothers in Liberia through medical check-ups and donations of essential items.
