Liberian Lion Elected Governor Of International Lions Club

In a landmark achievement, the International Lions Club has elected Clemenceau B. Urey as Governor of District #403A2, Region 34. Urey, the first Liberian to hold this prestigious position, emerged victorious in a highly contested election held in Lome, Togo, in April 2024. The election saw strong participation from Lions members across Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Liberia.
Commissioner of District #40382, Lions Mildred Dean, announced yesterday that Governor Urey will be arriving in Liberia from Australia on Thursday, June 27, 2024. His election was confirmed by the International President, Lions Fabrico Loviveira from Brazil.
Governor Urey’s term will span one year, commencing on June 30, 2024, and concluding on July 1, 2025. Commissioner Dean expressed immense pride in Urey’s accomplishment, noting that this is the first time since 1972 that a Liberian has attained this high-ranking position.
Dean highlighted Urey’s extensive experience within the Lions Club, detailing his journey through various roles. Urey has been a member of the Greater Monrovia Lions Club since 1986, served as Club President from 2006 to 2007, and held district-level positions including Zonal Chair from 2009 to 2020 and Regional Chair from 2016 to 2017 across Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
Governor Urey has also attended numerous conferences, including those in Accra, Ghana, Antananarivo, Madagascar, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, and Cotonou, Benin. He succeeds Lions Daniel Sampah from the Ivory Coast and is recognized as the longest-serving Lion in Liberia, having attended conventions in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Brazzaville, Congo, and Pointe-Noire, Congo, among other locations.
Regarding international conferences, Urey has represented Liberia in Minnesota, USA; Seattle, Washington, USA; Fukuoka, Japan; Toronto, Canada; Chicago, USA; Busan, South Korea; and Bangkok, Thailand.
The Liberia chapter of the Lions Club is celebrating this historic achievement, reflecting the dedication and commitment of Governor Urey to the Lions Club International’s mission and values.
