House Enacts Bill To Establish Paynesville Community College

The House of Representatives has unanimously enacted a bill for the establishment of the Paynesville Community College (PVCC).
The bill that was overwhelmingly passed during the 9th-day sitting of the 2nd quarter of the first session of the Legislature, seeks to provide affordable and accessible higher educational opportunities to the residents of Paynesville and surrounding areas.
In a communication addressed to the plenary of the House of Representatives, the proponent, Montserrado County District 4 lawmaker noted deliberated that Paynesville as a host city of thousands of Liberians from all over the country has approximately a million inhabitants; many of whom traveled as far as Fendell and other distances to attend university and college, and by that, it is time that the country largest city, Paynesville establishes a community college that will ease their burden.
The proposed act was sponsored by Rep. Michael Thomas representative District 4 Montserrado County and the chair on Judiciary.
Representative Thomas, who has been a faithful advocate for educational reform across the country, emphasized the importance of creating a community college that will cater to the needs of the local population.
He is hopeful that the establishment of the PVCC will not only increase access to higher education but also contribute to the overall development and progress of the city and neighboring community residents who are in search of quality, accessible and affordable tertiary education.
Meanwhile, the bill has been forwarded to the Liberian senate for concurrence.
