Des Moines United has been crowned champions for the just ended Liberia Football Association, Grand Bassa County Sub-Association 3rd division playoff held in the county’s capital, Buchanan City.
The county playoff saw six teams of the three Sub-committees in Bassa competing for two slots in the national promotional playoff, to represent their county in Nimba County in the coming days.
Des Moines United championship follows a narrow 1-0 win over Loopers FC in the grand finale at famous open aired Doris Williams Sports Stadium in Buchana over the weekend before a well-attended stadium of spectators and supporters.
The club’s wonderkid Richmond Bleh got a lone goal to seal his side’s win, helping them to lift the trophy.
Just from participating in the National County Sports Meet as the youngest player to feature this season, the Bassa Boy was in fresh spirit for Des Moines United ensuring their slot in the national playoff.
Both Des Moines United and Loopers FC came through from the Buchanan Sub-committee as Champions and Runner-up respectively, and both teams will represent Grand Bassa at the National playoff.
Despite missing up on the 3rd division league and County playoff championships, Loopers Football Club has broken club promotional record as the first team in three years to gain promotion from the community league and automatically qualify for the National Playoff.
Former 3rd division and county playoff champions Future Star Football Club were the holder of said record after their performance during 2021/2022 league season.
Losing the championship according to reports, has not changed anything for the concession boys, as they remain focus for the challenge ahead.
After the county playoff, Loopers through a social media publication, explained their courage of participating in the playoff to gain promotion to the second division league.
“Tough we loss 1-0 today in the Grand Bassa County Playoffs Final, we are proud to end the tournament as Runner Up! Congratulations to Des Moines United on a hard-fought victory. Despite the setback, we are thrilled to announce that we have qualified for the National 3rd division Playoffs. It is time to shift our focus, learn from this experience, and give it our all in the National Playoffs. Thank you to all our fans for your unwavering support. We begin preparations immediately,” the club outlined.
