Aggrieved motorcyclists have rubbished the Unity Party Chairperson’s appeal to Vice president Jeremiah Koung, terming it as being purely deceptive.
Recently, Chairman Luther Tarpeh appealed to Vice president Koung to prevail on government to relinquish its plans of restricting motorcyclists and keh-keh riders from plying the principal streets.
Speaking to the leader of the aggrieved motorcyclists, Trokon Gray, yesterday, he explained that Chairman Tarpeh knew about the government’s plans towards them, so his intervention is questionable.
According to him, Luther Tarpeh should stop the pretense, because he was aware of the evil regulation from the initial stage but did nothing about it, instead, he acted like nothing happened.
“We will not be blindfolded by your so-called intervention, because you are just doing this to promote yourself, and not helping us,” he said.
Gray is threatening to sustain protest against the Liberia National Police No-Go-Zone regulation scheduled for May 17, 2024, adding that, since the police have decided to set May 15, 2024 as the day to begin restricting commercial riders from plying designated areas, they as well will not rest.
Flanked by other angry riders, Gray said their sustained protest will begin on Monday at the Capitol Building, asking the lawmakers to include them in the National Budget that was just passed, so they can be able to get jobs for themselves.
“Since they don’t want us to ride motorbike any longer, they have to include the motorcyclists in the National Budget that was just passed in order to give us jobs, because we don’t want to be idle,” he said.
It can be recalled that the government, through the Liberia National Police, signed a symbolic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the motorcyclists, in which the LNP termed the ELWA Junction through Central Monrovia and the Freeport through Central Monrovia as No-Go-Zones for motorcyclists and keh-keh riders, beginning May 15, 2024.
Since the pronouncement, hundreds of motorcyclists have not endorsed the proposal and have been staging pocket protests.
