Liberia’s Vice president, Jeremiah Kpan Koung, has concluded his official visit to Nigeria, where he represented President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, at the inaugural ceremony of Douye Diri, Governor of Bayelsa State, which took place on February 14, 2024.

According to a dispatch from the offices of the Vice president, while in Nigeria, VP Koung met an array of top government officials of Nigeria to strengthen bilateral relations between Liberia and Nigeria.

On the sidelines of the Inaugural Ceremony, Koung held discussions with Governor Diri on the possible collaborations with Bayelsa State in the petroleum sector and to encourage potential investors, and indicated that Liberia and Bayelsa State can open new streams of economic cooperation and maximize the potential of both economies in the areas of Agriculture and Fisheries.

He also held talks with his Nigerian Counterpart, Vice president Kashim Shettima, after which the two leaders recognized the need to forge strong economic bonds and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the long-standing diplomatic relations between both nations and peoples.

“VP Koung was engaged in fruitful discussions with Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the release said.

The meeting centered on the democratic gains Liberia has made and the need to form strategic global and regional partnerships for economic development.

Bayelsa State is famously called the “Glory of All Lands” and contains Nigeria’s largest gas reservoir or crude deposits.

The state has immense potential in the Petroleum industry, Agriculture, and Fisheries.

Vice president Koung will travel to the Kingdom of Morocco to attend the Parliamentary Conference on South-South Cooperation and address the forum on February 16, 2024.
