The Governor of the Municipal Borough of New Kru Town, Moses Doe Weah, has, with immediate effect, replaced his dismissed Vice Governor, Wle Wle Koffa, with Slada Broh.
Recently, Governor Weah dismissed his principal deputy, Koffa, with immediate effect, for his alleged involvement in criminal acts.
In the dismissal letter, dated January 4, 2024, the Borough’s Chief Administrator stressed he has lost the credibility, trust, and confidence reposed in him as his deputy, claiming that his office had been undermined by Koffa since their inception to serve.
Citing further reasons backing his decision, the governor alleged that the dismissed vice governor unilaterally signed an agreement with Jahmale Diagnostic Sub-Center and received the sum of US$750.
He also recounted that Koffa placed a 40ft container at the International Bank (IB) and received US$400 from the owner of the container, but failed to turn over the cash and other monies to the Revenue Department.
“Therefore, for gross insubordination and disrespect to my office, you are hereby dismissed with immediate effect from your post as Vice Governor of the Municipal Borough of New Kru Town,” the dismissal letter stressed.
He firmly warned the public not to do any business with the dismissed vice governor, emphasizing that anyone who defies his decision will be doing so at his or her own risk.
The governor indicated that after his selection by the Six Nominating Districts and his formal appointment by President George Weah in consonance with the Revised 1948 Act creating that municipality, he officially appointed Koffa as his vice.
“I appointed the now dismissed vice governor for several acts he has been doing over the years. By this same power vested in me to appoint, I have dismissed him because I have no confidence in him again and the elders are aware of this decision,” he averred.
While presenting the letter of appointment on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at his office, the governor expressed explicit confidence in his new deputy, noting that Slada Broh is from the bench of the Six Nominating Districts and his appointment is in line with the 1948 Act creating the Borough.
Receiving his appointment letter, the new vice governor thanked the governor for his newest portfolio, adding that he did not see such an elevation coming his way.
Slada Broh promised to work under the direct supervision of his boss, foster unity among the citizens and elders of the Borough, vowing to not be a vice governor that will undermine the office of the governor.
Meanwhile, sharply reacting to his recent dismissal and subsequent replacement, former vice governor, Wle Wle Koffa, challenged the decision taken against him, stressing that he still remains in his office until further notice.
According to him, the governor only recommended his appointment while the Ministry of Internal Affairs gave them their official letters and placed them on the government payroll.
He described Governor Weah as a confused man who is being controlled by kids he employed in his office, thus giving him childish advice to act unconstitutionally.
“As far I’m concerned, I’m not replaced, because he has no authority to have me replaced. I am respecting the law and trust me, I can never disrespect Governor Moses Doe Weah, but I am defying this decision because it is not proper,” Koffa maintained.
He stressed that Broh cannot open and enter his vice governor office while he is still in charge, saying if the governor who gave him the new authority has the power, he can touch that office and see the next legal step taken against him.
