A United States-based Liberian security personnel has expressed the urgent need for the justice and security systems of Liberia to be refined and well-organized under the incoming Boakai-led government.
Amos Gbanee Jeffery, a former Executive Protection Service (EPS) Officer during Ellen’s Administration, said the current security sector of Liberia is compromised, and there is a need to refine the system’s integrity that has been hindered by unfair and partial judiciary processes by State actors.
Jeffery mentioned that the compromised and unfair justice system in Liberia does not only hinder the growth and development of Liberia, but also has the tendency of destabilizing the country’s peace and future economic prosperity.
Making specific references, Jeffery named the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), the National Corrections and Rehabilitation Services (NCRS), the Liberia National Police (LNP), along with the judiciary sector, as some key areas of government to have well experienced and professional integrity-minded people with merit to serve.
In recent times, Liberia’s justice system has come under increased scrutiny, with critics raising concerns about alleged bias and inefficiency within the legal framework, coupled with the glaring lack of security and protection for the citizens/professionals, and with the death toll from key ministries and strategic entities like the LRA, MoFA, Liberia Internal Audit Agency (IAA) increased.
Speaking on a telephone call with this institution on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from the U.S., the Liberian former EPS Officer said if the President-elect, Joseph Nyuma Boakai’s government will make a positive difference that would be in the interest of many Liberians, the Liberian justice system’s ability to provide equitable access to legal recourse, whistleblowers of corruption, integrity-minded individuals with positive minds and hearts to see Liberia and its people in prosperity, need to serve in strategic positions with maximum protection from the government.
Jeffery further recommended to the incoming Boakai-led government to prioritize transparency that would address systemic issues and bolster efforts to ensure equal access to justice for all citizens of Liberia.
He also wants offices, including the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC), the National Corrections and Rehabilitation Service, the Liberia National Police (LNP), along with the judiciary sector of Liberia, to be occupied by professional people with integrity, and well experienced with merit-based judgment.
