“Not To Put People In The Streets” -Joint Security Warns Pre-Victory Celebrants

The Joint Security of Liberia has warned the two political parties, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and Unity Party (UP) that were involved in the Tuesday, November 14, 2023 Presidential Run-Off Election, not to put people in the streets of Monrovia today, November 17.

This followed reports of the two parties having begun preparation of their various partisans and supporters for pre-victory celebrations today in Monrovia.

As cautioned earlier, before the run-off, the Joint Security of Liberia went further that it is reinforcing its mandate that there will be no such pre-victory celebrations by any political party before the National Elections Commission (NEC) shall have announced the final results and declared the winner of the presidential run-off elections.

Therefore, the Joint Security of Liberia is calling on the leaderships of the two political parties to exercise control over their partisans and supporters, as well as demonstrate a high degree of political maturity and sensitivity during this crucial time in the country’s democratic sojourn, to preserve our cherished peace and tranquility.

According to a statement issued yesterday in Monrovia, the Security said it will continue to monitor the situation, including social media platforms, and will hold accountable under the laws of Liberia, anyone who incites chaos that leads to violence.

It pointed out that Liberians and all residing within the borders of the country are assured of an unbridled security and asked to go about their normal activities.
